BACKGROUND

The HIV/AIDS epidemic has become a very serious health and development problem in the whole world. HIV/AIDS has claimed more lives than the first and the second World Wars, especially in sub Sahara, Africa. The joint (UNAIDS) estimated the number of HIV infections world wide at about 33.4 million by the end of 1998 of which 22.5 million were found in sub Sahara Africa including Zambia. 13.9 million people have already died from the disease. 590,000 infants now become infected each year and 90% of these are the African children. 8.2 million children have lost either one or both parents to HIV/AIDS (weekly Post Newspaper,

Zambia - date:3/2/2001), leaving thousands of orphans without shelter, food and with their future and dreams shattered. Zambia has many orphans and it's capital city has many street children. For the above reason, we were moved with COMPASSION to help the needy children with an eternal perspective (where shall they spend their eternity without Jesus Christ? All human beings whether rich or poor have a need and that is SALVATION and for life here on earth (providing Life Skills).

We have seen children stripped off their future, wounded by rejection, diseases, hunger, without any shelter, cold in the night, sleeping in the trenches, in the drainage, feeding from the trash canes and where they throw the garbage, that is where the children go and pick up the trash, boil it and survive on it. Our organization’s name come from Luke 10:25-37 - Stripped, Wounded and left Half-Dead. We started "Samaritan Community Orphanage" on the 3rd December 1999 with 7 orphans. At that time, we turned down 15 orphans because we did not have enough resources. We believe that we cannot build the future for the orphans, but you can build the orphans for future.
